Office Meeting

Start-up technology firms in the South Yorkshire region are set to be able to benefit from a new business accelerator scheme that is being launched by Barnsley Council and Capital Enterprise.

This scheme is being called Transform SY, and it will come under the umbrella of the wider programme called TEAM SY. Barnsley Council is launching it in collaboration with the non-profit business support organisation Capital Enterprise, and some of the financing for it is coming from the European Regional Development Fund.

UKSE and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority are providing the rest of the money needed for the scheme, which is set to run for the duration of next year. It will be managed by the Entrepreneurial Spark accelerator, and the hope is that 60 tech start-ups from across South Yorkshire will benefit from it.

While the number of companies in the region that are able to get on this scheme sounds small, there is plenty of other local support available for start-ups, including professional small business accountants in Goole.

Speaking to Insider Media, the Entrepreneurial Spark Chief Executive Mike Stephens said:

“Having worked with SMEs here for more than 10 years I have met some fantastic entrepreneurs, and this is a great opportunity to unearth more of them from communities throughout South Yorkshire.”

Stephens went on to say that small start-up businesses would be absolutely vital to the country mounting an effective economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Firms can apply for a place on Transform SY from this month.
