Every so often, I get a question that really makes me think. A potential client recently asked:
“Brad, why should I work with you instead of another accountant down the road?”

At first, I laughed — it felt like I was in a job interview again! But it’s a great question. So, I thought I’d share the honest answer here, because it says a lot about who we are at Adaptive Accountancy and how we work differently from most firms.

1. We’re Small — and That’s a Strength

I still work hands-on in the firm. I know every client by name, and I have a genuine interest in what’s going on in each business we help.

I also read a new business or mindset book roughly every three weeks. Some of my favourites include Good to Great by Jim Collins, Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestley, and The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss (which I’ve actually read twice back-to-back).

Not everything I read or hear applies directly to accounting — but much of it can be adapted to help my clients run smarter, more scalable businesses.

4. We Apply What We Learn

I don’t just consume information — I test it. I implement new ideas in my own firm, see what works, and then share that knowledge with my clients.

That means when you work with us, you’re benefiting from lessons learned across hundreds of real businesses. If something works for one client, we’ll often refine it and share it with others. It’s a continuous loop of learning, applying, and improving.
